Management plays an important role to create awareness of hazards at work place and safe working practices. Management must give a full commitment to implement this.

1) In line with safety awareness and rules, the commitment of managers towards achieving these goals is very important. Management has to draw good safety policy to stipulate clearly the responsibilities of all employees, subcontractors and management itself.

2) Management should also give and provide leadership by example towards total safety culture.

3) There should be adequate funds for the implementation of the overall system. Management must not perceive Occupational Safety and Health as a profit factor but as a production and productivity booster. This will go a long way in achieving the required goals.

4) Safe operating procedure act not only as guideline, but also as a tool for improvement in productivity. In addition to eliminating lost working time, consequently wasted productive man-hours, medical bills and insurance costs and other hiddent costs; smooth and uninterrupted working result in significant reductionin costs, a high work morale, and savings in manpower and materials.

5) In creating safety awareness, management can launch safety campaigns combined with non-smoking and housekeeping campaigns, due to the synergy that exists among these activities. During the campaign period, employees can be trained on handling of emergencies with fire drills, first aid practice, emergency response and practising the use of safety equipments.

Conclusion

Safety practices in any industry can be improved and the main key player is the management itself. Most of the problems in any organization lacking safety practices can be attributed to lack of management commitment. We must remember that employees are the main assets of the company and accidents results in social burdens.
