As an engineer, you will not be able to run from attending a Client/Consultants Meeting or a Site Meeting. In a normal construction project like building houses or shoplots, the team consists of Client/Developer, Architect, Civil Engineer, Mechanical & Electrical Engineer and Quantity Surveyor. Each has their own responsibilities of handling their scope of work.

The people who attend the meeting are usually have a good knowledge and vast experience about construction works. Usually each consultant’s company will send their senior officer or top management to attend the meeting. The reason is because when you are having problems on certain issues, you need to be able to solve the problems right away as the construction work progress will somehow delay if you could not make a decision.

There is certain time when senior or bosses could not attend the meeting, they will send their junior engineer as replacement. This is where certain Clients or Developers are not happy with this situation as the engineer who have little experience will not be able to solve certain issues. A young engineer always give an excuse that they will refer back the issue to his/her boss in the office.

A meeting room sometimes can be a little bit challenging and tense if everybody is chasing a dateline or if somebody in the meeting room does not solve their previous or last meeting issue. A Client usually expect all engineers to run the project very seriously and make no error, especially when it involves costing or budget of a project.

Here are some tips to prepare before attending a meeting :-

1) Make sure you solve your previous or last meeting issue.

2) Prepare your drawings that need to be issue to contractor.

3) Gain as much knowledge of the project as much as possible so you will be able to answer your client when time needed.

4) Be prepare for anything because sometimes you will encounter a big problem during the construction stage.
